Our Curriculum

Children starting school are provided with a broad and balanced curriculum offering a wide range of experiences and activities to develop skills, knowledge, positive attitudes and a high level of motivation. It is divided into two distinct stages:-

The Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)

Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2)

The two stages of the curriculum offer children continuity and progression in their learning, refecting their stage of development and ability.

The Primary Strategy produced by the DfES and otherwise known as 'Excellence and Enjoyment', gives schools the autonomy to redesign their curriculum. At Grays we have redesigned our curriculum so that it is more focussed upon the skills that young children need in order to learn. It is innovative, creative and enjoyable. We believe that young children learn best through practical, first-hand experiences-learning by 'doing and applying'. We endeavour to ensure this philosophy is practised across the curriculum whenever possible using visits, ICT, artefacts, visitors from the community, etc. when appropriate, to stimulate and enhance the children's learning. Young children do not compartmentalise their learning under seperate subject headings; their interests are wide-ranging and interrelated.
